Lizzy and John have had a tough year: Lizzy’s father died and then more recently her brother was killed in Iraq. John has been there to take care of Lizzy and her mother. Lizzy decides to do something special for John’s birthday. She finds a restored version of the exact motorcycle that John’s father owned when John was a child. The couple set out on a road trip to get the motorcycle and to investigate John’s roots as well as reunite themselves as husband and wife.
The trip takes them through some of the most isolated areas in the Appalachian region of the south, first to buy the motorcycle then to learn about John’s father. They’re fish out of water, city dwellers tossed in the woods with no cell phones or any of the luxuries they are accustomed too. As they travel deeper into the woods, what they discover isn’t on any map. Hill people take care of themselves, and if you hurt them they’ll take care of you too.
