Reflections on Practice: Teaching 'Race' and Ethnicity in Further and Higher Education (C-SAP Monograph 6)

This book is amongst the first of its kind in that the focus is specifically on developing strategies which allow lecturers of ‘race’ and ethnicity to reflect on the dynamics of teaching about ‘race’ and ethnicity. There is a complex ontology implicit in these terms which make such teaching perhaps one of the most important areas of the social sciences. Most of the contributions to this volume are written from a British or North American perspective and, in turn, reflect a particular set of social, economic, cultural and political specificities that relate to western liberal democracies. Nevertheless, it is expected that the issues raised in these chapters will resonate with university teachers outside the UK and USA and we hope that it may inspire others to think of ways in which they can articulate their own perspectives and suggestions for best practice.
