The United States department of labor statistics reported that EMS providers are 200 times more likely to be assaulted on the job then a police officer. After debriefings and interviews with the crisis patient and the assaulted EMT the DOL discovered the care provider did not response appropriately to the crisis patient. Verbal interventions and the right approach by the medic could potentially reduce and eliminate the escalating behavior.
