A catalogue of the Sleeba Syriac manuscript collection, Malabar, India
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
This catalogue has been produced as part of the SRITE project to digitize and catalogue the Syriac manuscripts of Kerala and the Malabar coast of south-western India. Descriptions and literary-historical notes are provided for the fifty-three West Syrian manuscripts in a collection owned by the Reverend Sleeba Gheevarghese Panakkal. Scarce Syriac literary and liturgical texts found in these manuscripts have been edited and translated into English, some for the first time. Copious cross-references and notes illustrate how the Sleeba manuscripts are connected to a wider Syriac tradition. A special study has also been made of numerous ancient Syriac gospel readings originating from the early years of Christianity, which are still to be found in these manuscripts. The Sleeba manuscripts include a number of colophons with information on the more recent history of Christianity in southern India. These colophons have also been edited, translated and compared with the published historical sources. pp: x, 230.
