Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, New Smyrna Beach - Postcard History
A Historical Review using Postcards
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
This COLOR book uses postcards for illustration for Daytona, New Smyrna, and Ormond Beach Florida. These Atlantic coastal communities were/are famous for vacationers from the north (and even local citizens). Each of these three communities will include Spanish Land Claim overview (those who owned land in the area) and associated plats (from State survey after becoming a territory of the US). Then each popular hotel's postcards are defined (went built/sold/destroyed etc.) - and these postcard images illustrate their history. Using old newspapers, the history of each area and subject matter (i.e. library, casino, pier, yacht club, etc.) will be provided (if found). Generally, the ocean front hotel industry began in the 1880-1890s. Sometimes the hotels were on the river (Halifax) and not facing the ocean. This book focuses on the older era (1880-1940) and does not cover motels - although there are some modern postcards to show the changes to some areas.
