The war years were not kind years; it was not only adults who paid the price of freedom. Children were scarred in many ways and carried these wounds into later life. Families broken, disparate children thrown together, friendships formed then ended without warning; adults who cared, others who didn't; this was the reality of the late 30's and early 40's. Thankfully there were also many wonderful experiences; many of which, regrettably, are unavailable to the young of today. The sights, the sounds, the tastes and the smells of World War II as experienced through the senses of a child. These are the memoirs of a common man, giving a rare, social view of a time that should never be forgotten
