Britain in the run up to a dystopian 2012 is ravaged by a punishing storm that leads the nation ever closer to anarchy.
Brutalised by civil unrest, social decay and a burgeoning police state, the people yearn for deliverance. In this dispassionate existence an ungoverned pagan renaissance emerges, reaching its zenith at an impromptu pilgrimage to Stonehenge. The anarchic gathering draws thousands of people from all quarters, including those escaping their misery and plight and some who governed and created that same plight.
Five architects of this misery find themselves forced to take refuge in an old inn by Stonehenge. It is here, in the Cross Keys inn, that their fates are revealed in turn by the inn-keeper, who offers shelter but foresees greater horrors ahead for each of his five illustrious guests.
