Captain is a little dog born into a very big pen with too many other dogs and not enough people to care for them. His heart feels very empty. He knows he is a dog who needs more love than his buddies in the pen. Just as luck would have it, the gate is left open enough for him to make his escape one day. Several pitfalls waylay the little dog, and we , the readers, root for Captain as he seeks to fill his empty heart and find a person of his very own.
