This book is a collection of memories of a young girl growing up after the Great Depression. The story begins with the marriage of her parents and continues until her own marriage. She tries to bring out the best in each and every situation, while sticking to sound moral values.
On this farm, in rural Franklin County, N.C, tobacco was the cash crop. Much of this book is centered around the activities related to it's planting and harvesting. Though times were hard the family managed to "eke" out a living while enjoying the rewards of their hard work.
As you read this story, try to imagine your reaction to some of the problems this family encountered.
