Jane believes that her house, built on the site of an old priory on the Cornish coast which was destroyed in the Reformation, is haunted. She enlists the help of Dan, an old student friend, who is sceptical at first, but is soon confronted by a resurgent and dangerous zeal from centuries past which threatens both their lives.
