This remarkable novel centers around a young man's return to Lagos, the city of his childhood, after fifteen years away in the West. "The Return" is beautifully written, an evocation of intense encounters against a contemporary urban African backdrop. Teju Cole takes us into the inner life of Lagos, in English prose that is as tender as it is acute. A sheer delight.
