The Children’s Day School Eighth Grade Class of 2021 created this fantastic collection of short stories, Trigger Warning. Each student was asked to create two stories and choose which one to publish. For the first story, we were directed to incorporate one of the philosophies that we have learned this year in Humanities class from Heraclitus, Parmenides, Plato, Descartes, and many more. Additionally, for our second story, we were asked to either create or find a certain picture that would prompt us to develop and think more deeply about our story plot. We created three drafts of these stories, and received peer edits and feedback from our fellow classmates during multiple Humanities class periods. We then collaborated with the members of our cohorts to form a title for the book and ended up with a majority voting for Trigger Warning. Throughout Trigger Warning, there are many variations of stories, some with a philosophical world view and others with a world view taken from looking at photographs. However, they all include the words “trigger warning” to bind our stories together, formulating our finished piece of literature. Some of the students in eighth grade volunteered to make artwork for the front and back covers of Trigger Warning. The remaining pieces of artwork that were not selected were still included in our book. Finally, at the end of collecting all of these spectacular pieces of writing, many of us were given the additional opportunity to make final edits to Trigger Warning for publication. We have put together such beautiful and meaningful short stories, and we hope that you enjoy them all!
