Nichiren’s Sangha Series Priest Disciples: The Churoso, Mid-tier Monks

Nichiren converted many priests from other schools, mainly Tendai and Shingon monks. Their status as chūrōsō differs according to various sources as they were not officially appointed by Nichiren as the six elders (rokurōsō). It was mainly a heterogeneous group of ordained clerics who generally converted from other schools. This publication contains all the profiles of Nichiren’s priest disciples whereas they belong to the core group of twelve, the extended eighteen or beyond. Broadly speaking, all those who were directly converted by Nichiren or were directly trained by him, might be considered as chūrōsō.
