Wayland Fuller Dunaway, a 19 year old college student, could not stand idly by and watch Virginia be invaded by Union troops. But his love for the Union that his family had fought to establish made him hesitate to act. But the sight of a Confederate banner flying from his University's dome so electrified him that he knew what his destiny must be.
Thus began the author's journey from the comparative comfort of his training camps in Virginia to the bloodied battle fields of Pennsylvania.
