The ‘Song of Songs’ is a love poem from the middle of the Bible. It has been accepted as an allegory of the love that God - the Bridegroom/King - has for His people, personified by the Bride. The Bride then also represents the individual soul as well as the Church, Mary being pre-eminent.
Artist Peter Koenig has made the Song of Songs his special subject. Here, the selected Biblical texts and the paintings are accompanied by a commentary with the sources of the imagery and the religious interpretation.
This book is intended as an encouragement to return to the Bible where Peter Koenig finds enormous inspiration for art and prayer.
