The Simplified Speling Soesiety’s spelling of approximately 10,849 words are placed in a list from A to Z on pages 5 to 701. Much of the list include words ending with -ed changed to end -t ("addressed", "caressed", "missed", "possessed" and "wished", becoming "addresst" [p.7], "carest" [p.105], "mist [p.432]", "possest" [p.500] and "wisht" [p.687], respectively). Other changes include removal of silent letters ("catalogue" to "catalog" [p.108]), changing -re endings to -er ("calibre" and "sabre" to "caliber" [p.98] and "saber" [p.545]), changing "ough" to "o" to represent the long vowel sound in the new words altho (p.13), tho (p.643) and thoro (p.643), and changes to represent the "z" sound with that letter, where "s" had been used ("brasen" and "surprise" becoming "brazen" [p.87] and "surprize" [p.625]).
