The six sentences of the header (on every numbered page, starting on page 7 and going to page 208) are printed in a different colored ink to indicate a time shift as specified by the Folio Society in their edition of “The Sound and the Fury” (this first sentence being light blue for spring, 1910, with Benjy pining at gate for Caddy and chasing the girl) with words in italics “indicating changes of events.” This second sentence being alpine green (December 23, 1908). This third sentence being dark red (1900, Benjy’s name change). This fourth sentence being purple (1910, father’s death). This fifth sentence being orange (1906, when Caddy gives perfume to Dilsey). This six sentence being yellow (spring or early summer 1908).
