Salesman’s sample copies—produced by publishers to showcase a book’s design before its official release—were historically used to secure pre-orders from booksellers. These incomplete editions often contained only select pages of text, with blank or partially filled sections to indicate the final book’s structure. By replicating this format, this project highlights the ways in which books are shaped by commercial and material forces before they are ever read. The subtitle Legendarium—a term closely associated with Tolkien’s mythological world—raises questions about the nature of legend and authorship. While a legendarium is traditionally a collection of myths, here it functions as an empty framework to consider what is absent, or what is implied.
