From the author's foreword:
This is not “the” history of Oak Beach or Oak and Captree Islands. It’s an attempt to wire together important events and bits of everyday life during the three and a half centuries since this beautiful section of Long Island coast became inhabited by European settlers.
My fondest hope is that an updated look at the area’s past will help make its present more understandable and inform, perhaps illuminate, its future.
The work is a “labor of love” that won’t be a best-seller but should be of interest to many who through family, friends and experience know a little about Oak beach and Oak and Captree Islands in the Town of Babylon but would like to know more.
