The plot of the story is laid mostly on the Caribbean side of the Isthmus of Panama and covers a period of time from 1943 to 1973. The story relates to a puzzling design etched on a piece of clay pottery that was found on a tiny island in a jungle swamp by a U.S. soldier during World War II. This clay artifact was kept as a souvenir for many years until one day the ex soldier became aroused by something that created an interest in him to find out more about it. He eventually develops a desire to see this mysterious place if it really exists and if he can find it. It recounts to his research, planning, and his quest for an answer to the etching on his shard. While proceeding on his quest, he espied a cave, in which the entrance had been sealed. This find resulted in an unsuspected terror for him. This story is part history, adventure, and a mystery.
