By Bike Around Shikoku

By Bike around Shikoku records the daily experience of following the route of the Bhuddhist Shikoku 88 Pilgrimage on a small folding bike. This journey was undertaken in September 2010 and was planned as a compromise between the rigours of a walking pilgrimage and the comfort of a bus or car pilgrimage. It takes the reader into one of the lovliest and least touristy areas of Japan. Shikoku's population is shrinking and aging and its way of life maintains some virtues and simplicities no longer found in the big Japanese cities. The text is accompanied by many colour photos of the pilgrimage route.
