The “People Power” Travel Superbook: Book 23. Middle East Travel Guide

ByTony Kelbrat

The Middle East is technically the area south of Turkey between the Red Sea and the Persian Gulf even though several North African countries like Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and Djibouti, a small country south of Egypt, probably feel they're more Arab than African. The kingdom of Bahrain is made up of 33 small islands in the Arabian Gulf near Saudi Arabia. It's a popular tourist destination.Based on what I've read, the situation in Iran is not as oppressive as we're made to believe by the mainstream news. Some people say they are having a good time in Iran. Based on the photographs I've seen, it looks like a thriving country. They're even skiing up north. The language is Farsi, not Arabic. Jerash is an ancient Roman city. Petra is an ancient city. The United Arab Emirates is composed of 7 emirates. Dubai is the major city. Dubai has the largest building and largest shopping mall in the world.
