1877: The Inaugural Victorian Football Association Season

This publication is one of a series that provides details of the seasons of the Victorian Football Association from its inception in 1877 through to the formation of the Victorian Football League in 1897. In 1877 the Victorian Football Association commenced just a few days after the South Australian Football Association. This detailed research that explores and identifies the connections and relationships between the game in South Australia and Victoria, has never previously been published. In particular, the interchange of players and matches between clubs and representatives teams in intercolonial contests is identified. The early years of Association football in Australia have been little published. They should be recognised as the foundation years of football in Australia.
