Excerpt:
Many Humanists are uncomfortable using religious vocabulary such as God or divine to denote ideas that have nothing to do with miracles or the supernatural. Their worry is that these words will be misunderstood and encourage ideas that are unscientific and therefore anathema to naturalistic humanism. However, if we automatically reject any philosophies that use religious terminology, we will unnecessarily lose communion with people who are in fundamental agreement with our own humanism. Consider Albert Einstein, who said that he believed in Spinoza’s God. Should we reject Einstein as a humanist because of that?
