HENRIETTA MILLER (The Woman Behind Doris Miller)

Biography novel about World War II hero, Doris Miller's mother, Mrs. Henrietta Miller; also being author's father's (Mr. Selvia Miller's) mother. A story travelling far from her death in 1982, connected as greatly to a worldly concern that Doris Miller will be awarded America's highest thanks, the "Congressional Medal of Honor," for his heroic contributions in helping to save America, on that drastic day of December 7, 1941, when after rescuing many of his fallen crewmen, along with Captain Mervyn Sharp Bennion, Doris manned a machine gun, and fired upon Japanese bomber planes, shooting down as many as 5 of the bombers planes, and abandoned ship only after the commanding officer's outcry order over the intercom, "All able - bodied men! Abandon ship! Abandon ship!' Heroism far from Doris Miller's line of duty aboard the USS West Virginia. Yet, he fought above and beyond his call of duty, giving of himself, to defend America, being unbiased to creed or color.
