Checkmate For Novices
Checkmate for Novices is written to help develop the most important chess skills: calculation and forcing checkmate. The majority of the book is composed of 400 checkmate puzzles. Novices can begin to learn checkmating patterns and calculating skills by solving the puzzles. The book ends with two short chapters that teach the techniques for forcing checkmate against a lone king using only your king plus a queen or rook. These techniques are essential to winning games and are very powerful ways to develop calculation skills. Checkmate for Novices has large, easily-read puzzles with solutions on the same page. The book is spiral bound to make studying easy as it's being held or lying open next to a chess board during practice.
