This book details the damage done to the towns and villages of Inverclyde by various German raids up to and including the catastrophic nights of the 6/7th May 1941 when the town of Greenock and neighbouring Port Glasgow suffered its biggest attack. It draws upon many sources to illustrate the horror of those two nights - photographs, personal reminiscences, official reports and official maps. This is the most complete
telling of the story since the actual events.
The author, Vincent P. Gillen, Greenock born, is the Social History Curator at the McLean Museum & Art Gallery, and has worked there for the last twenty years. He has previously published books on the histories of Greenock Morton, Inverclyde
Cinemas, WW2 in Inverclyde, Scott’s Shipbuilders, the 5th Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and Inverclyde’s Great War.
