Living through pain of death The story combines the life of Saint Sebastian (with a lot of fictional invention) with modern life fictional story. Saint Sebastian, according to legend, survived being shot with arrows, later died being murdered by drowning. The modern hero survives abuse in the showers and thought to be drowned. The Saint Sebastian story connects to the other one mid action in an unexpected way, mid chapter. But their aspirations relate to one another. Christianity, human rights, homosexual rights. They have to survive suffering, worry about persecution and convert people to love and care for one another, live according to Christ, not by criticising each other, but by understanding one another, doing right by all people. Rome and Herne Bay become one in purpose.
