Code Duello: Letters Concerning the Prentiss-Tucker Duel of 1842
ByVirginia Quitman McNealusSargeant S. Prentiss
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Reprint of a book that contains the correspondence pertaining to a duel between Senator Sargeant S. Prentiss and Gov. T. M. Tucker, both of Mississippi, in the year 1842. The challenge is in Mr. Prentiss’ own handwriting, evidently thrown off in a white heat of anger; all of Governor Tucker’s letters are in his own hand, and are the ones received by Gen. John A. Quitman, of Mississippi, Mr. Prentiss’ second in this affair. The other letters are the original drafts made by General Quitman of the letters sent by him to Governor Tucker.
This book was originally published in 1931 for the members of the Book Club of Texas. PrenticeNet has recreated this book from an original copy of "Code Duello" in the Prentice Museum collection. It is provided as an interesting historical document relating to a prominent “Prentice” (Prentiss in this case) from our past.
