NOCTURNE FOR A JAZZ GUITAR

The intention was to follow the course of a musician through the hours of darkness as he tries to communicate his sense of being through work, art, philosophy and sex, and, failing to get any real sense of his purpose through these, he disappears into his own mysticism- the fate of many a talented individual! The verse form was intended to reflect his fluctuating moods- 'reflection' is a major theme - in that it starts of in solid blocks of ottava rima ( an excellent narrative stanza, but difficult to use and only Byron, Pushkin and Auden really mastered it, in my opinion ) then the verse breaks up into shorter quatrains, couplets and finally single images. 'Nocturne' is a unique piece of work and there is nothing else quite like it, so enjoy!
