Who are We and what is this enigmatic construct that we keep referring to as ‘SELF’? Every day people are talking about 'Self-Image', 'Self-Esteem', Self-Confidence, Self Control And Self Respect, but what and who are we and how do we celebrate our uniqueness among others?
In order to unravel the enigma, perhaps the best place to start is the fact that human beings are NOT just Sentient, but more importantly, We are a Sapient species. As a sapient being we are acutely ‘Self Aware’ and cognizant of our own thoughts as well as the world around us. Consequently, our Unique 'Self-Image' is essentially a composite of all of our beliefs, opinions and emotions that make us uniquely ‘who we are’ and enables us to be recognized as a single, unique individual with distinct value to ourselves and to others.
There are now over 8 Billion Other People on the Planet, so how do we differentiate ourselves from all of the others and celebrate our unique individuality? Thus keeping ourselves from becoming an indistinguishable and valueless identity in a virtual ocean of similar but different identities?
