A God of His Word is a study that refutes the atheist, Bertrand Russell’s claim that “Jesus was a liar” when Russell commented on what is known as The Second Coming. Using the prophecy found in Daniel, the author goes to great lengths to make his point that Jesus, indeed, did come again (the second coming)—in a spiritual sense, not a physical one. The Kingdom of God is a spiritual kingdom, which we can enter into through faith in the word of God. In other words, the kingdom is here and now, not somewhere in the future. This is a preterist viewpoint as opposed to the dispensationalist belief that Jesus will come again and establish a physical earthly kingdom on the planet. By going to the original Hebrew and Greek languages, Walter Nagel explains in great detail how the prophecy in the Hebrew scripture (the Old Testament) was fulfilled centuries later in the New Testament. His exegesis of scripture is also explained by comparing the Eastern mindset in writing as opposed to our Western mindset. His comparison of these two styles is very revealing. Whatever belief the reader holds on the subject, they will be reading the result of the author’s years of dedicated study to the subject. Nagel’s beliefs, written in this book, were intensely personal to him.
