Shanxi Sights

Shanxi, as one of the cradles of Chinese civilization, has a long history,reputed as an "Ancient Chinese Art Museum" and a "Province of Literature ". Shanxi has 271 national cultural heritage sites under special protection, which ranks first in China. The province, covered with historic relics and sites, has 6068 heritage preservation units of various sorts, 18118 ancient buildings of various types. Shanxi has Datong Yungang Grottoes (the renowned World Cultural Heritage), Pingyao Ancient City, the well-known Hanging Temple in Heng Mountain, unique Yingxian Wooden Tower, the Yongle Palace in Ruicheng. Hence, there is a saying that Shenzhen represents China for about ten years, Shanghai a hundred, Xi'an a thousand, and Shanxi five thousands.
