Celebrating All Families
ByWendy K Bedrosian, PhDAmy Rottinger
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Once again, Noah and his caring teacher Miss Li help their school solve a common problem, in this case by creating a more inclusive celebration at which all families are valued and appreciated. Miss Li sensitively works with her students to explore what all families have in common (they are our special people) and how families change. She guides her class to an understanding of what makes a person a good role model and how we create our sense of "Family" with important family friends and extended family members. Topics such as single parent families, same sex families, divorced families, grandparents raising children, and parental incarceration are touched upon lightly through the children's words.
The goals of the book are to validate children's experiences of having different kinds of families and to create understanding and empathy. Includes a curated list of resources for families, teachers, counselors, and childcare professionals as well as a Discussion Scaffold to hep adults prepare to read and discuss the book with children.
