
William Erwin Halbrook was born in the Ozark hills of Arkansas in 1878. He became one of the leading exponents of education for poor rural children of the hill farm families. This autobiography was written in 1958 when he was 80 years old and includes his time working with the adult education program with the WPA in the 30s. He tells of his family and marriage and a later marriage after his first wife died. He lived 16 years after this autobiography was written.
