Pragmatism: A new name for some old ways of thinking.

ByWilliam James

William James wrote extensively on pragmatism. Pragmatism’s premise is that “the truth of an idea can never be proven,” and James suggests that we focus ourselves on the “cash value” or usefulness of an idea. I think that this series of lectures on pragmatism should be required reading for safety professionals. The pragmatic approach suggested herein by “the Father of American Psychology,” William James, has great relevance to the way modern safety professionals approach their daily tasks.
