The Biblical Doctrine of Marriage, Divorce, and Remarriage

Divorce can certainly be complicated…in many ways. The plethora of perspectives offered in books, sermons, and counseling rooms adds to the complication, emotion, and trauma of it all. Opinions on the subject are many: anything from “no divorce and no remarriage” to essentially “whatever you do is fine.” This, sad to say, adds confusion to the already difficult situation. Arguments and proof texts abound. For church leaders, one thing is certain — your position on this issue will determine how you shepherd your congregation. You must work hard to come to a biblical position. Your people depend on it. You cannot ignore it, avoid it, or be neutral about it if you are going to be a biblical shepherd.
