Unit 5: Foundations for Church Administration

One of the privileges for leadership is to identify and equip other leaders. A helpful component of this manual is helping pastors/elders set up a structural flow chart and utilize the deacons as they should be used ... to provide service and relief. This manual walks you though some basic steps to do this successfully: identfying leadership potential. One of the terms describing church leadership is “bishop.” It means overseer. The pastor/elder is to oversee the ministry of the local church. How is he to do this? What is required for effective oversight? How can he do this without being too overbearing? He must understand who God has gifted him to be b/c “who he is determines what he does.” One of the phrases describing the pastor’s responsibility is “of good behavior.” He must be well-ordered. He must live a well-ordered life in and out of the pulpit. Organization and administration is at the core of pastoral responsibility. Learning to fulfill his role and learning to delegate certain ministries to others is crucial. He is to give himself to prayer and Word ministry. To do that effectively, he must be able to delegate without neglecting his God-ordained priorities. Helping the flock understand and live their lives based on biblical goals and priorities is his privilege to teach; and he must do it effectively. This unit is full of practical teaching on administrating the local church and developing God’s goals for your life.
