Assyrian Printing in the USA (1915-1943): The Syriac Typewriter
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
In 1925 the Assyrians of New Britain, seeking a more economical way of printing in their language, approached the Underwood Typewriter Company to create a Syriac typewriter. Subsequently, at least four books and three periodicals were printed by either offset lithography or by mimeograph from typewritten original copy. Several items were printed by a cultural organization called the Good Samaritan Society and were edited by Yonatan Bet Solieman. This volume contains the four books: a book of songs entitled Heart of Youth, the Story of Francel Wensen, the History of Assyrians in the Christian Era, and the Book of Stories of Mullah Nasruddin. This book is part of a series that aims at preserving Assyrian literature printed in the United States during the era of letterpress. It was inspired by the bibliographic research of J. F. Coakley who has provided the introduction to the volume.
