"You know that in Africa..." - Encountering Cameroon tracks the author's study abroad in Cameroon through a series of essays. Consisting primarily of in-the-moment reflections on the author's experience, the book also contains the Zachary's articles written for his university newspaper after returning to school. Ultimately, the book sheds light on markedly different (but not always clashing) cultures, naive Americans, development of all types, and the vast differences of lived experience which still persist despite the march of satellite television, air travel, and telecommunication. This book is an excellent read for anyone thinking about studying broad, interested in travel, or merely wanting a glimpse at how one semester in Cameroon affected one young man.
