About
Florence Koenderink

Florence Koenderink is the founder of Family-Based Solutions, an NGO dedicated to raising awareness about and taking action on the need for child protection and alternative care reform. Working as an independent consultant in child protection and alternative care reform. She has dedicated her life to improving the lives and living conditions of children without parental care around the world for almost a decade and a half now. In 2014 she first published 'Children Everywhere: Book 1', a manual for providing good institutional childcare, which is now in its second edition, and the first of a series of four manuals on various aspects of institutional childcare. In 2018 the book 'How to Help, Not Harm' was brought out, informing people of the dangers of institutionalisation and those of funding orphanages. In 2021, this was followed by Best Intentions, Yet Still Causing Harm, helping people understand the unintended negative impact of volunteering in 'orphanages' and giving advice on responsible volunteering. In 2022, 'Understanding the Trauma of Institutionalised Children. To support the child you adopt' was brought out to support parents adopting children from institutions to deal with the challenges children with that background face. Blogs and PDF reports that can be downloaded for free can be found on her website: www.familybasedsolutions.org. None
