Stephen Elder started out as a professor of German. He then became, alternately, a carpenter, millwork installer, cabinetmaker, newspaper columnist, home inspector, blogger, and finally, a writer. His personal journey has ranged between romantic idealism and edgy cynicism, with stops at wonder and grudging acceptance. He lives with his wife in the woods of North Carolina, sharing space with hawks and too many deer.
