Dana Carlile

Dana Carlile took up playing the piano after graduate school and by 2000 had composed over 80 pieces. His CDs are: Preludes for Silence and Darkness, The Ballet of Phantoms, A Lullaby for Innocence and A Paris Moon for the Last Waltz. Dana’s grandfather Ferdinand Sorenson, a professional musician, conductor and teacher, also composed. He studied violin with his father Lars Sorenson, Willard Weihe, Mose Christensen and cello with William Ebann at the New York College of Music. In Boise, Idaho he played in Mose Christensen’s orchestra, string quartet and taught dancing at the Christensen school. In Spokane, Washington he conducted a theater orchestra, played in the Gesner-Sorenson and Herbst String Quartets, Spokane Citizen Band, Chuck Whitehead Orchestra and in the Spokane Symphony. In Oregon he played in the Portland Symphony, conducted and taught at Pacific University, the University of Oregon and Portland State University. His CD of string quartet music is The Age of Innocence.
