This book “How the Story Flows” is a story of an average person. The main character Jonathon Franks wants to be a writer. He works third shift at a gas station as he goes to college. The story starts where he has a short story due for his college class and he has had two weeks to write it but has had the dreaded writer’s block.
He is told by a customer to write about what he knows. He starts thinking back on his short lived life and comes to the realization that his life is totally uneventful and unrewarding. He feels that everything he wants to accomplish is that of a pipe dream. He has had a long standing battle with depression. He also has been constantly hurt and used and feels that maybe life is just not worth living. Jon meets an unforgettable customer in that of Alec. Alec asks Jon to tell him his story. The two of them end up discussing many topics throughout the night.
