Berthing on a Threshold is a conscious attempt to present the social responses which colonialism brought from an unbiased perspective. The plot and theme of the entire event, cuts across a time frame of about forty years, primarily in ETSAKO area (Midwestern Nigeria) and other Nigerian cities.
It attempts to demystify such literary and academic postulations of Chinua Achebe’s, THINGS FALL APART (1957), WALTER RODNEY’S, HOW EUROPE UNDERDEVELOPED AFRICA (1972), etc., which gives the impression that colonialism led to the collapse of African value system without complimentary benefits.
This work addresses such issues as marriage, African traditional beliefs and the village political structure, amongst others.
