Catalyst a Novel

A sunburst hue emerged from smoke and ruble as light scattered into the dawn. Seraphim guided souls into eternity. The event was meaningful to the few who had observed. It reminded them that a different existence remained in their future. In the preceding day, a decision altered the course of life for the poverty-stricken people of North Korea. The day had finished like any other, as the village honcho huddled with his family to their dinner of injo gogi and mashed cornmeal. The honcho’s son ate the soybean-based sausage at a delicate pace. He savored it like a delicacy. The father placed his serving in front of the boy. The wife scolded her husband. “You work long. Eat gogi.” The protein was plant based. She felt strain in the pit of her stomach. She recognized the weakness in her husband’s actions. Her husband made decisions from his heart. It was his flaw and it prevented her from grander status.
