When this book originally appeared in 1917, its publishers hailed it as a new work just completed by world-famous American writer Samuel Clemens, better known as Mark Twain. The catch was that Twain had been dead... since 1910! To further sensationalize the publication, the additional claim was made that the book had been transmitted by the deceased author via... OUIJA BOARD! Of the book's preface, the NY Times noted that it "contains many quotations of [Twain's] remarks that sometimes have a reminiscent flavor of the humorist's characteristic conversation." The Times reviewer noted of the novel itself that "the dialect is true, and the picture has, in general, many features that will seem familiar to those who know their 'Tom Sawyer' and 'Huckleberry Finn'." After that, the review is less than kind concerning the book. This facsimile edition is derived from a 1917 copy. As a 1918 lawsuit led to the banning and burning of this book, printed editions are scarce. Till now.
