A loving description of the emergence of the Beat Boom in Manchester, England in the early sixties, against the background of a city crawling its way into the Swinging Sixties. The book details the early growth of skiffle and its rapid development into the Beat Boom. This was accompanied by the opening of scores of clubs across the area, clubs which gave the kids a place to go and the groups a place to play. By the mid-sixties Manchester had developed into one of the most vibrant and exciting entertainment centres in Britain. Clubs, dancehalls and hundreds of groups including some major names like The Hollies, Wayne Fontana and Hermans Hermits, each of which made a major impact in America. Hundreds of other, less famous groups, and the constant presence of another up and coming group called The Beatles. And, most of all, a funny, moving and wildly entertaining picture of a city by the Mersey whose important role in the pop boom of the sixties has been shamefully ignored or forgotten.
