Periodic Fall 09

This book documents student exercises from the Kansas City Art Institute Graphic Design Department, Fall 2009, Typography One class with Assistant Professor Michael Eppelheimer. The exercises consist of letterform combinations to create monograms of periodic table elements as well as element research and typesetting. A letterpress postcard, this book, and a website were created to document the project. My typography courses (in the tradition of the Basel School of Design) employ heavy emphasis on formal development, while (in a contemporary, American manifestation), exploration of multiple technologies and mediums as well as investment in research and content on the part of the students is highly valued and encouraged.
