Thinking is Not an Impossible Thing.

Poetry is an excellent way to stimulate critical thinking skills because poetry is rhythmic and abstract. This mini thinkbook has the potential to enhance lesson plans greatly by guiding student thinking using poetry and drawings. It can be adapted for a variety of uses. After instruction of a particular topic, the poems may be introduced to measure critical or abstract thinking as related to the content of taught material. Student interpretations of poetry and drawings ignite class discussions and promote student engagement. It may also serve as an interesting pre-laboratory activity to correlate content with theoretical thinking. Process questions available for each poem are ideal for daily writing assignments and may serve as an interdisciplinary lesson source. All poetry is original and based on science topics. Ultimately, students may extend these lessons to write their own poems to creatively summarize concrete topics.
